I've played this amazing "venue" a few times now, but it's always a delight to return. On a Wednesday afternoon, they have recitals, usually featuring choirs, pianists or string quartets, but occasionally looping guitarists. You have half an hour to perform and entrance is free. The first time I played there, I put my guitar round my neck and a few people walked out before I'd even started. This time there were about 50 and all seemed to remain seated ;)

Ideally, you need a small PA system, but I made do with my monitor and a Boss Katana, plugging into the "line in" on the back. I spread them as wide as the cables would allow and there was more than enough volume, especially with such a superb acoustics as  a cathedral offers. I gave a debut to my "new old" Telecaster and started with some "frozen reverb" notes, slowly morphed into a rendition of the Vaughan Williams "Tallis" classic. This led to my usual looping walls of sound. I made use of my DIY arduino set-timer to ensure I didn't outstay my welcome.

A few people came up afterwards, one was a friend of a girl I was in a class at school with, she lives in Leeds but had asked him to say "hello" for her. Another chap, Kevin, had travelled down from Blackburn to see me (he has a rail pass) - we'd met a few weeks previously at a Das Rad gig in Salford. It's amazing how much people will do for live music, bless them!

Sadly and foolishly, I set up a video camera but in the stress of the moment, forgot to turn it on. Thankfully this wasn't the case 17 years ago when I had the most magnificent compliment after a gig at the nearby St Matthews. (excuse the poor quality video)
