Delighted to see my favourite midi controller has had a major upgrade. I’ve yet to invest (times are hard and sales are low) but it’s on my list. Launch Control XL gives you hands-on control of all major DAWs, software synths, effects, and external hardware. Connect via USB or MIDI I/O and use eight faders, 24 endless encoders, 16 assignable buttons, dedicated transport controls, and a new OLED display.
Within Ableton, I use my LC for selecting channels, controlling plugins, launching midi clips (which I can colour-match within Ableton and which has extended colours in the LCXL3) and in countless other ways. I’ve had it for 8 years and it’s never let me down. As a guitarist, I need instant access to minimise disruption and the LC allows me to switch templates remotely via midi, so I don’t have to hold two muttons whilst selecting the template – this feature alone makes for a far more focussed performance.
When looping, the LC allows me to seriously warp the sound. I probably couldn’t play without it. More recently, I added a Launchpad mini mk3 and this too has accelerated my workflow!
